Overview

Project overview

The practice prepared a master plan for a public recreational and cultural park on roughly 28.11 acres at the southern peripheral area of Mazar-e-Quaid, Karachi, for the Government of Pakistan's NH&LH Division.

The plan sets out public squares, decks, a monorail ride, a fish pond, an indoor gallery, communal and play areas, walkways, landscaped zones and organised parking. Planning next to a national monument means the park has to draw people without competing with what they came for, so the built elements are kept low and the structure of the scheme is carried by landscape and route rather than by buildings.

This is a master planning commission and a proposal. No photograph of a built park exists because none has been built; the plan is reproduced here as the drawing it is.
