Overview
Project overview
The Karachi Development Authority appointed the practice to design the uplift of the waterfront at Manora Beach, covering 8.75 acres of public coastal edge.
The scheme is a piece of public realm rather than a building. An entrance gate, pigmented cement concrete paved walkways, sitting steps down to the sand, waterfront gazebos, composite benches planted with greenery, a kids' play zone, kiosks and shops and restrooms are set along the shore so that a family can arrive, find shade and sit down without the beach being fenced off from them.
The materials are chosen for a marine environment, where salt air and constant use punish anything decorative. The practice carried architecture, structural and MEP engineering and held project management and detailed supervision.
