Existing condition before construction, traffic at Munawar Chowrangi on the Gulistan-e-Johar corridor.

For the Karachi Development Authority the practice designs the city's road schemes. The Munawar Chowrangi underpass on the Gulistan-e-Johar corridor was opened to traffic by the KDA in 2026; a link road and nallah from Moach Goth to Hawkes Bay is under construction; and further underpass, flyover and coastal schemes are in design.

On the project index these are separate sheets. What they share is a discipline the buildings pages never have to show.

The argument

A road in Karachi is a drainage scheme

Karachi floods, and a carriageway that cannot carry its own water does not last a monsoon. In these schemes the drainage is designed with the alignment, not added to it afterwards.

At Munawar Chowrangi the underpass carries a stormwater holding tank beneath its barrel, sized from an intensity–duration–frequency curve built on Karachi rainfall data from the Meteorological Department, so heavy runoff is held rather than pushed onto the corridor. The Moach Goth scheme is a link road and a nallah in one commission.

That is the through-line across the schemes: each pairs the carriageway with the water it has to move, which is why the practice's infrastructure record sits beside its buildings rather than under them.

Where the schemes stand

The Munawar Chowrangi underpass is open to traffic. The Moach Goth link road is under construction. The remaining schemes, on Korangi's arterial roads, at Maskan Chowrangi, along the Gujjar Nala corridor and at Clifton, are in design.

Each keeps its own sheet in the record, with its own status and figures, and each is linked above.
